Job Descriptions

Volunteers

Volunteers are the key component of a successful season. Because of this, each family is required to volunteer 6 half meets.

The majority of these positions do not require any previous experience. For the positions that do, we offer training. Here are the volunteers we need:

Meet Director: Oversees the running of the meet, answers any questions from the home or away team.  This position is assigned.

Referee: Goes through all disqualifications to verify that they are correct. Advocates for all swimmers. This position is assigned.

Volunteer Coordinator: Prints and hands out name tags for all home volunteers, reassigns and fills positions as needed. This position is a Board member.

Head Timer: Starts manual timers at the beginning of all races, checks with other timers to see if there are any problems. Hands out manual timers if needed.  Helps with block maintenance if needed between heats. Prior timing preferred.

Timer: Times the swimmers in races, records times from all timers in lane, hands sheets to Runner. No prior training.

Runner: Collects timing sheets/DQ slips and takes them to the computer workers (may or may not do DQ slips, may or may not be needed at away meets) No prior training.

Clerk of Course: Organizes swimmers for upcoming races behind the blocks. No prior training.

Seater: takes swimmers from Clerk of Course to their positions at the blocks. No prior training.

Mite Parent: Helps ensure swimmers are at clerk of course for their event (especially the younger ones), will help if needed at clerk of course with seating swimmers and getting them to their lanes. No prior training.

Starter: Operates the starting system, announces the events and tells swimmers when to step up and take their mark, starts race and indicates any false starts. Prior training needed.

DJ/Announcer: Makes announcements during meet: which events are being called to Clerk of Course, what event is in the water, etc. If you missed your calling as a DJ, this position is for you! We have the equipment!

Head Computer: Enter in times and DQ's from races into computer system. Works inside our clubhouse. Prior training required.

Computer Assistant: works with computer team to verify race times, post results. No prior training. 

Strokes and turns: Makes sure that swimmers are all swimming strokes legally, consults with referee for any DQ's. Prior training required.

Hospitality: Walks around deck and offers water to all volunteers throughout meet (will likely carry small cooler) No prior training.

Heat Ribbons: Hands out ribbon to winner of each heat. No prior training.

Concessions: Help set up and serve or serve and break down/clean the concessions area; manages selling of small merchandise - magnets, stickers, tattoos, etc. No prior training.

Meet Setup: Helps set the deck prior to the start of each home meet. Arrives at 4:00pm. No prior training.

Meet Take-Down: Helps reset the deck after the meet. No prior training.

Our Volunteer Coordinator will assign you a needed role at a meet if you have not yet completed the required slots.
